Welcome to Janos’ Newsletter Season two Number 6
As winter draws to a close and we look forward to
another great summer, I want to welcome all players to
another successful Ice Hockey Training programme for
2008-2009.
I’ve been watching with interest the games and stats
this winter, and I’m pleased to see that those players
that took part in my summer programme last year have
been outstanding in the league this year. I think that
just about all the leading point scorers in all age
groups have also attended most of the Kaszi practices
last year. I’m also very proud to see quite a few Kaszi
alumni selected for Rep team honours this year, and I
wish you all the best for Nationals!
I’ve already started receiving enquiries and
registrations for this year’s intake, so already it
looks like we’re once again going to have a great
programme. The ice slots have already been booked, as
follows:
Under 12’s – One Off-Ice per week, and On-Ice at 5pm
Fridays
Under 16’s – One Off-Ice per week, and On-Ice 12.15pm
Saturdays and Sundays.
I can’t stress strongly enough that the
level of improvement that we recorded last year, coupled
with the results from the season just about to end, show
that these practices are very, very worthwhile, and also
great value for money. Places are limited, so please,
email me as soon as possible to confirm your place for
this year.
There is also some good news from a sponsorship point of
view, as the Aardwolfs Ice Hockey Club have confirmed
their support again this year, and as a result, there
will be some subsidies towards the cost of Ice time.
I’d like to thank the Aardwolfs club for their
generosity.
In other news, I’m also planning a mini-tournament in
early 2009, and at this stage there will be a team from
Auckland, coached by my good Hungarian friend Csaba
Kercso-Magos, and also a team from Taiwan, coached by my
old Hungarian teammate Kristof Kovago. What I need from
you is an indication that you will be able to commit to
this as soon as possible, so Csaba and Kristof can
confirm travel details. While this event will be
sponsored to some degree, there will be probably be some
extra costs associated with this. The tournament will
be open to players aged between 12 and 16 years of age.
I’m also hoping that we can invite a team from the
Southern region as well. If any parents are able to
offer billeted accommodation for late January, please
let me know as soon as possible.
Last year, the Kaszi Hockey Academy had a great start,
with some fantastic results and great support from
players and parents. I want to thank everybody who
participated, for the faith that you showed in me and my
team. I want to assure you that this year will be even
better, with many exciting developments ahead!
Regards,
Jani

Welcome to Janos’ Newsletter Number
5
Hi,
welcome to another new year, and some good news for
patrons of the Kaszi Hockey Academy – with barely
half of our new semester completed, we have
confirmed some sponsorship funding for another
semester of training, leading right up to the start
of the winter season. This means that I’ll be
offering the same format as usual for a five week
block up until the 6th of May, with
reduced costs thanks to our sponsor.
For the young players, 5 to 9 years old, we’ll be
having one on-ice and one off-ice per week, at a
cost of about $50 per player for the five weeks.
For the older group, there’ll be two on-ice sessions
and one off-ice, about $75 for the five weeks.
I’d
like to take this opportunity to thank the
generosity of our sponsors who have made this
happen.
I was
really pleased with the progress after the first
couple of weeks back after the break – everybody
looked refreshed and focussed, and the on-ice
practices were really great. However, I was really
disappointed with the attitude shown by almost every
player at the off-ice training on Feb 27. While it
was good to see such a big turnout, constant ill
discipline meant that I had to cancel the practice
after 30 minutes. I’m sorry to those parents who go
to a lot of trouble to make the practices, and I
appreciate that there is also a cost associated with
them, which is why we will be making up the lost
time over the next few weeks, but I had to make a
tough call on the night, for the sake of team
discipline for the long term. At the very beginning
of my programme, I made it clear to everybody that
this group would be coached in a professional
manner, but that the skaters had to show the same
professionalism and respect in return. On the night
in question, I gave the kids many opportunities to
focus, and I made it clear that if their behaviour
didn’t improve, that I would send them all home.
It’s a pity that those players who always show
respect had their practice time shortened by the
rest, but not only is it important to instil
discipline in the squad, but I feel that we are a
team who has to stick together in order to succeed.
I’m sure that every practice to come will benefit
from the strong stand I took on this occasion.
I will
sent the new timetable tomorrow.
That’s all for now,
Janos

Welcome to Janos’ Newsletter Number 4
Hi All!
We’re
now in Week Three of the Kaszi Hockey Summer School, and things are going
very well. We have had such big demand for the Up to 15’s that we had to
expand the class size to 30 skaters, while the 5-10’s now have 18 skaters,
which is a really good class size for this age group.
I’m pleased to announce that we now have off-ice T Shirts for all the Tykes,
and On-Ice Practice Jerseys for the Bantams. These are currently being
screen printed, and should be ready by the end of this week. We have also
been loaned some practice jerseys for the Tykes for the summer – thanks
again to CMIHL for their help there.
I was recently approached by the producer of CTV’s “Metronews” and I’m happy
to announce that they will be filming our Tykes practice session this Friday
at Hagley Park, and again at the rink on Monday night for the Bantams. This
is for a spot on their Thursday night news show which will screen on October
18 – so make a note on your calendar for this one! On that subject, for
those Tykes parents who aren’t already aware, we have moved the Thursday 11th
Oct practice to Friday 12th Oct to accommodate their camera crew.
I want to thank Ann Jarden from CMIHL for making herself available to sort
out some hire equipment for a few players – please help Ann out at the end
of the season by making sure the gear is returned in good condition!
Also a big thank you to Glen Cameron, and the Aardwolfs Hockey Club. Not
only has their assistance been very helpful in organising all the jerseys
and equipment, but Glen and his boss at Briford Trailers have very
generously provided two fantastic off-ice goals, which are collapsible so
they can fit in my car. These will be a great help at our off-ice
practices.
As you would all have noticed, I wanted to spend the first couple of
practice sessions completing some assessment tests of all skaters and their
abilities. By using internationally recognised tests, I’ve been able to
compare our relative performance against the same age groups from overseas.
The results show that while we have some work to do, it seems that we’re not
going to be too far behind in a few months, if we all work hard and put in
as much effort as we can. These tests were also good for showing what areas
of our game that we need to work on, so I have designed a training programme
to specifically address two or three areas. In December, I’ll be testing
everybody again, and hopefully, there will be some improvement
That’s all for now, all the best, Jani

Tykes Summer School newsletter, Issue Number
Three
Hi All!
Only a few days to go until the Summer School starts and I’m really looking
forward to making a start.
* I have some good news for you all – thanks to the Aardwolfs Ice
Hockey Club who have secured some funding, we will now be able to supply
some extra equipment for both the tykes group, and the older 10-15YO group.
This equipment includes practice Jerseys (which I’ve ordered on-line and
will be arriving in 14 days), also Nets, Pucks, Tennis Balls, Soccer Balls,
etc. This is a long-term investment in equipment which will be shared
between both groups over the next few years. This is really good news and I
want to thank the Aardwolfs for their generous assistance.
* I know that there is still some confusion amongst the general ice
hockey fraternity about my training camps and what exactly I am doing with
these groups, and there still seems to be some misinformation going around,
so I ask you all to please come directly to me if you have any questions
about any aspects of the training school. This way we can eliminate any
incorrect rumours before they get too far.
* We have received two more confirmed starters for the tykes-age
school, taking our numbers up to 17 now, which is really great. We have
also had to make the 10-15 years group a bit larger, as the demand was
simply too great. That means we now have 30 in this group, plus four
goalies. As stated before, the goalies do not have to pay to take part in
the schools, so enquiries are welcomed from any goalies out there in the
right age brackets who want to come along.
That’s all for now – there will be at least one more newsletter next week,
so have a good weekend.
Regards, Janos

Tykes Summer School newsletter, Issue Number Two
Hi
everybody, welcome to newsletter number two!
Firstly I want to thank all the parents who came along to our meeting at Alpine on Saturday, and for those who have already paid up, thank you also. We have confirmed our 15 minimum starters for the Tykes Summer Camp, so we will be starting as planned on September 27, which will be an off-ice practice at Waltham Park. In a slight change of plan, we will begin without inline skates, so only a stick will be required. If you have inline skates, we will be using them at the off-ice practice the following week.
There are a couple of small changes to the planned ice times, as we haven’t been able to secure all the Sunday morning ice slots that were originally available. Therefore we will move the following ice slots: October 7 changes from Sunday morning to Saturday October 6 at 4.30-5.15
October 14 is not available at all so this will change to an off-ice at the same time slot
18 November is not available at all so this will change to an off-ice at the same time slot
2 December changes to 1 December at 12.15-1.00pm Because there will now be two less ice-slots, we will be reducing the price of the camp to $230 Dollars.
For those parents who have already paid, we will refund the difference to you. We would really like to see a few more participants in the camp, so please make sure you spread the word to as many other parents who may be interested. You can see all the latest information on the front page of the CIHA website, so make sure you check it out. For those parents who want to pay direct into my bank account, the details are as follows: Name: J Kaszala Bank: National Bank Branch: Victoria Square Account Number: 06 0831 0192429 00 Please put your name as a reference number on any deposits. That's all for now, I look forward to seeing you all next week at the first training session, Cheers,
Janos

Tykes Summer School newsletter, Issue Number One.
Hi all from Janos!
Welcome to my Hockey Tykes Summer School newsletter, Issue Number One. As most of you should know by now, my Hockey Summer School for minors players is well under way, and I’m looking forward to getting started in a few weeks. I have received a lot of positive feedback already from a lot of parents and players, and I’m pleased to see how many of you share my vision of the future of our game. I’m running two classes this summer; One for players from 4-9, and one for players from 10-15. The intake for the older class is virtually full already, with only a couple of places left before we get to our planned maximum of 28. This newsletter however is mainly for the “Tykes” age players and their parents, as I wanted to take this opportunity to clear up some questions that I have received over one or two minor issues. Firstly, I have been asked about the costs per practice for the Tykes, as at first glance these seem to be more expensive than the older players’ practices. The reason for this is that I have only 15 players in the younger group, so this affects the overall cost. However, if there is a significant demand from parents for more places, I would like to increase this to 25 players, in which case the cost would come down. Secondly, I want to point out that while I have the best wishes and blessing of the CIHA and the CMIHL in my endeavours, this concept of a Summer Hockey School is my own idea and is being underwritten and planned on my own behalf. The product I’m offering is on a “willing buyer, willing seller” type of arrangement. Thirdly, the question has been asked about equipment hire. I have checked with Ann Jarden, equipment manager for Canterbury Minors, and Ann has said that CMIHL is willing to make gear available for hire over the summer. Ann would like all gear returned first so it can be checked over etc, before being re-issued. I’d also like to introduce my Assistant Coach, Craig Armstrong-Fray, who will be helping me at the practices as his work schedule allows. Craig and I are keen to improve the communication between ourselves as coaches and organisers, and you as parents and players. For this reason, we will be making an effort to contact each of you direct, whether by email or telephone, as the summer school gets under way. We would ask that if you have any questions about the Tykes summer school, that you direct them either to myself, kaszi63@xtra.co.nz, or Craig on carmstrongfray@xtra.co.nz This Saturday the 15th, I want to have a meeting with as many parents as possible about the summer school, and I’d like to have the meeting during the Tykes’ practice session. If you can’t be at this meeting, but still want to be part of the summer school, please email me to let me know and I will keep you informed of what is discussed. I really look forward to this summer, as this is the start of some exciting changes in the way we prepare our younger players for their season. I know that in Hungary, twenty years ago we changed our approach to practices and preparation, and over a number of years, the benefits of this were seen in our results in both domestic and international competition. I firmly believe that we can do the same thing here in Canterbury. Kind regards,
Janos
