in 1963 the Invercargill Licensing Trust provided
45,000 pounds toward the erection of an indoor ice rink. The Glace Ice Rink Opened in Invercargill on June
the 13th 1973 Owned by Mr Max Parmenter. This closed for a change
over to a new building in March 1980, this was an inflatable
building with airlock doors and a fan that ran automatically keeping
the building inflated, the new rink opened in the
middle of October in 1980 and closed permanently in January 1984 From around 1935 Lloyd Veint from Queenstown was contacted by Percy White from the Invercargill and Gore ice skating rinks on Friday nights to check on the local ice conditions. If they were favourable Percy would arrange buses to bring skaters to Queenstown for Saturday and Sunday. |
