Becoming an Ice Hockey Referee you can:
Stay involved in the game Just because you can no longer play due to injury or other commitments (like family or work) that’s no reason to leave the game. You can still stay active and involved by refereeing. Refereeing is flexible enough to be able to work around any other commitments you may have.
Stay fit By refereeing you can maintain (or improve) your physical and mental fitness.
Experience new opportunities Referees have opportunities to travel, both within New Zealand and internationally, to experience Ice Hockey with different teams and cultures.
Meet new people Referees come from all walks of life and all age groups – just like players. There are regular monthly meetings where referees get together to discuss refereeing issues.
Give something back to the game you love The future regional and national players are waiting to start their Ice Hockey careers. By refereeing you can help get them started – just like someone helped you!
