Abuse of Officials.
The IIHF has endorsed
a policy of zero tolerance of abuse towards officials.
The NZIHF endorses this
policy.
The CIHA also endorses
this policy.
The SNC also endorses this policy.
Any SNC player who verbally or
physically abuses an official will be penalized.
This penalty could be a 2 minute minor or a 10 minute
misconduct , or a 20 minute game misconduct or a 25
minute Match Penalty.
A 2 or 10 minute penalty
will see you cooling your heels in the penalty box.
A 20 minute penalty will
see you sent from the game to the dressing room.
A 25 minute Match
Penalty will see you sent from the game to the
dressing room and suspended from all ice hockey until
you have appeared before a hearing of the CIHA
Disciplinary panel. If you are found to have a case to
answer by this panel the minimum penalty that you will
receive will be a 45 day suspension from all ice
hockey but if you are a repeat offender the minimum
penalty starts at 150 days.
Captains and Assistant
Captains.
Only the Captain or the
Assistant Captains are able to speak to the officials
during a game .They must always speak to the officials
in a polite and professional manner. They must
always have a C or A clearly displayed on their shirt.
If they speak to an
official in an abusive or threatening manner they will
receive a 10 minute misconduct penalty. If they
return to the ice and receive a 2nd 10
minute misconduct penalty they are then sent from the
game for the balance of the game.
As soon as they - the
Captain or Assistant Captain - receive a 2 minute
penalty of any kind they instantly become the
penalized player and have lost the right to address
the officials.
CIHA Rule regarding
penalties in the last 10 minutes of a game.
2.1 In games
played under the jurisdiction of the CIHA, Game
Misconduct Penalties, and Misconduct Penalties in the
last 10 minutes of a game will receive an Automatic
Next Game Suspension. A Player receiving an Automatic
Next Game Suspension will serve this penalty in the
next scheduled game in the competition the penalty was
imposed in. Where the penalty is imposed in the last
game that the Player has in that league then the
Player shall serve the penalty in the CIHA league the
Player had nominated that he or she will play in the
next season.
2.2 There
shall be no appeal against any penalty imposed under
this sub rule.
All Captains and
Assistants need to be aware of the last part of this
rule.
If you have a player who
is affected by this rule and you feel that there is a
reason to question this penalty you must speak to the
officials BEFORE they sign off the game sheet. Once
the game sheet is signed off there is nothing any one
can do. The player misses the next game.
ARE YOU BEING PENALIZED
AND DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY??
The standards & emphasis
on the rules changed 18 months ago.
If you want to stop being
a regular visitor to see Claire or Alison ask Alison
for a copy of 2 DVD’s on the IIHF Rule Emphasis &
Standards and take these home and watch and learn. It
could save you a lot of time in the penalty box and
your team a lot less time on penalty kills.
