Games Report B Semi

Score:

Aardwolfs 4

Phantoms 3

We’re into the semi-final and finals stage of the year, and we had a great win last night in the first semi against the Phantoms, who are no longer the easy beats of the comp.  We had to work hard for the win, and managed to score in the first period thru Hamish.  Then I gave us a buffer goal early in the second, and John Nelson followed that up with a sweet shot from the point. However the Phantoms came back at us and scored two goals to get within a point.  After a scramble in front of the net, Suzy picked a good time to open her scoring account for the season by slotting one under the keeper to restore our buffer.  But it wasn’t all over with the Phantoms throwing everything at us to score again and make it a one point game again.
With 90 seconds remaining, the Phantoms called a timeout, which gave us an opportunity to catch our breath.  For some reason though they never pulled their goalie, and we were able to keep the puck under control to close it out nicely.  In the other semi, the Dragons struggled with a number of their best players away supporting a Junior Hockey tour – with a two man bench they were no match for the Rangers, who with a strong finish to the season are shaping up as strong contenders for the cup next week.
We’ll certainly have to play out of our skins to beat them.                   Reported Craig-Armstrong-Fray

 River Rats 3

The game was hard and fast as well as rough. With a penalty count to the Rats like a book. We kept it as clean as possible, some great shooting from both teams. But two goals from the Rats did not help us and some of the lack of chatting made passing and team work a little difficult for us. We kept the shots on, but alas could not find the back of the net. In the second, we held the Rats at bay and for some of the third.
With the penalties coming thick and fast, it made for lots of stoppage of play, and it hard for us to get into the game. But with all this we still could not get the puck in the net, making it a 0 - 3 game to the River Rats.                                                                                                       Reported by Glen Cameron

Games Report A Thunder Semi

Score:

Thunder 2

White Dragons 5

With their regular goalie out and the rules stating no ringins or casuals for semi's and finals, Thunder were left with few choices. In the end they choose to ask for dispensation to play Pete and played him in the net. He had not played in a while but the team just wanted a chance to try. With the first goal going to the Dragons in the first minute, Thunder had their work cut out for them. The game was intense with both teams throwing everything at each other, only to wined up in the bin. No answer from the Aardwolfs saw the Dragons go 1-0 up into the second. Two more goalies from the Dragons saw the Aardwolfs desperately trying to get one back but to no avail, the Dragons goalie having an awesome night blocking a total of 36 shots on for the game. Then with a minute left on the clock, Andrew finds the hole and finally puts the Aardwolfs on the board. The third period saw the Dragons increase the their lead with two quick goals leaving the Aardwolfs on the back foot. The penalties kept on coming for both teams, some good and some not so good calls, leaving teams frustrated. The Aardwolfs score once more in the final seconds but it was too little too late. They just could not finish tonight and in a game that so could have been theirs, they go down to the White Dragons 5-2. We did what we could on the night guys and girls, that's all we can ask.                     Reported by Kushla Proffitt

With 2.36 minutes on the clock, Ross scores his second assisted by Joern and Ian, Scotty earning his dues in goal with some excellent tendering. End of the Second the game is still tied but at 2-2, the shot count going the Aardwolfs way at 13-12.
The Aardwolfs Lightning go ahead in the Third with a great goal from Joern unassisted, then Silvers come back to equalise once again. With 7.33 minutes on the clock Aardwolfs score, the goal from Aaron unassisted. The Silvers come back again after a minute and equalise…with 2.54 minutes on the clock the Aardwolfs hold their breath as they have 2 players binned. A 5 on 3 power play to the Dragons, but the Aardwolfs survive till the end the game. The shot count in the third once again going the Aardwolfs way 11-7….final score in normal time all tied at 4-4.
With 10 minutes sudden death to play, 5 minutes each way the Aardwolfs come out strong but some good play by the Dragons star player sees him beating the defence and Scotty to score, the Silver Dragons taking the win 5-4 in extra time.                                                                                   Reported by Clive Murphie
