Opawa Homestead Contact Details:
Information: The Opawa Homestead was the property of Mr Matthew Wills in Mt Nessing in Albury, South Canterbury. Famous for being the site of the inaugural meeting of the New Zealand Ice Skating Association on 25th June 1937 in a caravan, This was held after local farm workers had played the initial game for the Erewhon Cup. This was on a rink constructed with the aid of draught horses and which is still remaining as a pond in front of the house.Mr Matthew Wills Died in 1965.
