Probably the highest Ice Skating Lake in New
Zealand Lake Stella is at the base of My Lyford Ski field If you
look to the right of Lake Stella in the Google Location Photo you
can see the lift lines and cat tracks in the shingle. The Ski Chalet
is visible over the road on the South east end of the Lake. There is
a very short time from having Ice to getting covered in Snow for
skating on this Lake. Weather report from MetService: http://www.metservice.co.nz/public/skiFields/mt-lyford.html |

The access road for Mt Lyford and Lake Stella turns off Highway 70 about 20km's after Waiau. It is a 8km long well maintained gravel road which passes through Beach Forest and into alpine terrain. It passes through the lower of the two areas at Mount Lyford, Lake Stella, where there is a car park, and finishes at Terako Basin, where there is another car park and the ski area. | |
