Friday 12th Aug 4.30pm Lake
Ida, the Ida Rink and Little Lake Ida From Clive Murphie |
|
With most of the main lake in sun for several
hours during the day there was only a minimal 3mm of ice in the
shadow of Mt Ida. The Lake is high and plenty of water was flowing
over the beak in the Enclosure bank. There was about 10mm of weak
snow ice on the Hockey rink. Access to Little Lake Ida was limited by either a knee deep walk in icy water or a 2 mt leap over the overflow from the enclosure. Looking at the very limited ice at Ida its unlikely conditions would be significantly better at Little Lake Ida. ![]() The break in the Enclosure bank Photo by Clive Murphie ![]() A skim of ice on the Rink at Ida. Friday 12th Aug 4.30pm Lake
Evelyn From Clive Murphie |
|
Lake Evelyn had about 10mm of weak snow ice over
the western end of the Lake. This was almost gone when we returned
from our walk to Lake Ida. When leaving to head home the air
temperature was 11.2 degrees ![]() Ice disappearing in the sun at Lake Evelyn. Photo by Clive Murphie |

Friday 12th Aug 4.30pm Lake
Camp and Clearwater From Clive Murphie |
|
Lake Camp and Lake Clearwater this morning had a
minimal skim of ice (5-7mm) over a very small part of the lake, even
with big frosts, its highly unlikely there will be enough ice to
skate this weekend. With the sun higher in the sky at this time of
the year it looks like the season is over.![]() Beautiful day ....but no ice at Lake Camp today. Photo by Clive Murphie. ![]() Lake Clearwater crisp in the sun. Photo by Clive Murphie |

Saturday 30th July 7.15pm:
Cheeseman Rink From Jeremy Pullan by Email |
|
Went to Lake Ida today. No ice apart from a thin
crust on the Hockey Rink. No ice on Lake Evelyn. Didn't go through
to Little Lake Ida as the lake was over the walkway. And then it
started to rain!!!! Good walk anyway.![]() The Main Lake flowing into the Enclosure at Ida Photo by Jeremy Pullan ![]() No Ice on Lake Ida today, Photo by Jeremy Pullan ![]() A skim of ice on the Hockey pond. Photo by Jeremy Pullan |

Sunday 24th July 7.27pm: Lake
Ida From Liam Ashby by Messenger |
|
No skating today!! The Rink at Ida has 25-30mm
with the edges not frozen enough. Ida Lake had some edge ice, the
lake water level is currently VERY high, probably from snow melt and
rain. So high you cant get across the enclosure to get to Little
Lake Ida.![]() Dodgy thin snow ice on the Ida Rink. Photo by Liam Ashby |

Sunday 17th July 1.23pm: Lake
Evelyn From Clive Murphie |
|
Skated on 1/3 of Evelyn today with strong snow
ice that gradually softened in the NW wind. The wind strengthened at
about 12.30pm sending us off the ice. Rain and wind due over the
next week will probably wash the ice away.![]() Some of our fellow skaters in their happy place. Photo by Brianna Wilson ![]() Looking east on Lake Evelyn. Photo by Clive Murphie ![]() Catch up time on wind affected Ice on Evelyn Photo by Julia Egan. |
